Know Which Way the Wind Blows

On August 3 DL Hughley reposted an Instagram message from Shaun King. It starts out like this:

“The primary trait of modern conservatives is FRAUD. Nothing else. Fraud is the beating heart of the Republican Party. Nothing else.
Today he was charged with his 54th felony of the year.
54.
Felonies.
I don’t want to EVER hear a conservative say they care about crime.
Or character.
Or integrity
NOTHING.”

First, I had to start following King on Instagram and all the other social media I am on, including the new one, Threads.

After that I had to think of the few voices out there, coming from the so-called moderate Republicans, who say we should find common ground with the people that support Donald Trump and the ones that claim they don’t support Trump but are going to vote for him anyway because he is their party’s nominee. I wonder if that second crowd even reads what they have written, or listen to their own words and figure out what a lie they are telling us and presumably themselves when they claim to not support Trump — but are voting for him in the 2024 general election.

Forgive me for using an analogy that was over-used this past weekend, but this use of that over-used phraseology has a slight twist. It’s like claiming I am not the bank robber, I’m just driving the getaway car. Let’s be even more blunt: If you are voting for Donald J. Trump in the 2024 general election because he is your party’s nominee, then you are supporting the guy.

A man who was found to have sexually assaulted a woman — by a judge and jury — who has been charged with paying off an adult film actor he had a fling with after his current wife gave birth to Trump’s youngest child. Trump is a man who, along with his children, are banned from ever operating a tax-free charity in the state of New York; five of his attorneys have been named as co-conspirators in his election fraud and document stealing schemes, the Mar-a-Lago case and the election fraud in the 2020 general election and the crimes Trump committed in furtherance of an insurrection on January 6, 2021.

He can’t even dispute that because we all watched it on live TV, the entire three-plus hours it took place. From the speeches on the Ellipse to the last violent actions by the mob of insurrectionists and the death of one of them, Ashli Babbitt. She got what she deserved. She was shot trying to get through a door window she helped break.

Voting for him is supporting him.

BBC News has a good timeline of the January 6, 2021 insurrection. I find it very helpful.

Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen, went to prison for helping Trump pay off the porn star Stormy Daniels and the former 1998 Playboy Playmate of the Year Karen McDougal, with whom Trump had a fling while his current wife was pregnant with his youngest child.

Trump and his two oldest sons have been charged with fraud that goes into the hundreds of millions of dollars,

Regardless of all that, there are some voices out there who think those of us on the left should reach out and try to find common ground with the party that represents lawlessness, that supports over throwing the United States government, with violence. That’s about as anti-American as I’ve seen since the 1960s. Who knew that some 50-plus years later, the Republican Party would have something in common with the Weather Underground? Most Baby Boomers have heard of them. Below is the song by Bob Dylan that “inspired” the Weathermen and Weather Underground.

To be blunt, I’m not about to have constructive discussions or seek common ground with people who cannot, or will not accept the results of the 2020 general election.

As for the MAGA Cult doing research, that’s laughable. These people support the insurrection-leading Donald J. Trump, or knowingly enables Trump and his anti-American followers who will no doubt try to over throw the government again after the 2024 election that Trump and the GOP is doomed to lose.

The MAGA Cult doesn’t do any research anyway. They just listen to what Trump and his corrupt mouthpieces say and assume that will pass for research. Maybe you remember Jordan Klepper’s video report after Trump and his propagandists on Fox (not)News told us to, “Read the transcript!” It starts at about the 4-minute mark.

None of them read the transcripts of Trump’s attempt to coerce Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy into making up some corruption tied to Joe Biden and his son.

Many GOP members of the House of Representatives should be prosecuted for their parts in the January 6, 2021 insurrection, and a number of GOP senators.

Find common ground with these people? The ones who believe Trump and his minkies are being persecuted by the “Biden DoJ”? I think not. Every person who supports or enables Trump and the MAGA Cult in this next campaign should be required to take a loyalty pledge to the Constitution, much like the one I took when joining the United States Marine Corps.

On MSNBC’s Alex Wagner show they had a clip of an NBC journalist asking a Trump supporter what would happen if Trump was convicted of a felony by a jury. The Supporter said there would be a civil war. And I’m supposed to find common ground with that?

In the words of Country Joe and the Fish, “So put down your books and pick up a gun, we’re gonna have a whole lotta fun.”
